Procedure remarks Refrain from eating carrots, pears, fruit, „green vegetables” (spinach, fennel, kale) for at least 12 hours before blood collection; blood must be collected on an empty stomach; centrifuge the blood and remove the serum using a pipette to prevent haemolysis. Store refrigerated (+2 °C to +8 °C) and protected from light (wrap the vial in aluminium foil)

Diagnostic recommendation The beta-carotene in serum concentration correlates reciprocally with the fat excretion in stool.
